Probably the home of fine Mexican cooking in the UK. We first opened our doors back in 1986, having returned from a couple of years living in Southern California and South west Mexico, when the idea of Mexican food was considered totally alien, and most people thought that a Margarita was a fancy pizza.
Over the years the national press has recognized us prodigiously, with the Guardian rating us in the top five Mexican restaurants in the country, The Independent praising us highly and twice featuring in the ‘best Mexican Restaurant’ in the Sunday Times. We don’t have Michelin stars (we don’t do fancy stuff with napkins, and silver cutlery just isn’t our style), but the legions of new and regular customers vote with their mouths!
Avoiding the usual Tex Mex fare, we use our frequent trips to the Yucatan in Southern Mexico to build inspired menus that use the finest fresh ingredients such as diver caught scallops, corn fed chicken and fresh organic herbs and vegetables whenever possible. All of this is infused into a sublime meal experience by our Head Chef Dave Lawrence and his team, and co-ordinated by restaurant manager JV and his enthusiastic waiting staff.
We have a full bar license so whether you just want to drop in for a glass of wine, a frosty margarita or sit down for a full on Mexican fiesta, we can offer you the best. Come and enjoy – it’s the real enchilada!
